STEP: READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY!
- Jack rear of truck and support the axle with jack stands.
- Remove the bed of the truck.
- Locate the spare tire crossmember. This is the narrow piece of channel held on by rivets just behind the shock
crossmember. - Remove the spare tire crossmember by drilling out the rivets and pressing the rivet out with a punch.
- Using a floor jack maneuver the new tank into position. The tank locates just behind the shock crossmember with the step down portion of the tank facing the rear of the vehicle.
- Once positioned, use large “c” clamps to hold tank in place. Drill the frame with a 3/8” drill bit using the mounting flange holes as guides.
- Position mounting straps on top of the lower portion of frame rail as seen in diagram.
- There are extra locations for fittings to be placed. Make sure to vent the tank so that vent tube sits higher than tank.
- If you have purchased a side fill tank, you will need to “C” notch the top of frame to allow for clearance of the fill.
why does this maybe not work in a 4×4 model?
We have sold them to guys with 4wd but have never installed one on a 4wd. We have one guy say it wouldn’t work but we think he did not want to remove the spare tire.
Great website I found it on Yahoo, keep up the great job.
This looks great, but let me understand correctly. It installs behind the rear axle where the spare tire is now? so that the weight would be all the way at the back, which would be great for grip etc. Also how much is one for an 86 GMC Sierra 1/2 ton 2 wheel drive? Thanks
Yes, the tank installs rearward of the rear axle. It also helps distribute the weight better and improve the ride.

Thank you!
will you see the tank from behind when bed is put back on?
Yes, it will be seen slightly.
Can you purchase a side fill tank for a 1986 gmc sierra 1/2 ton ? and what is the cost?
Please contact us at info@performanceonline.com
The tank in the pic is not for the tbi fuel injected 87?
It doesn’t have the opening for the fuel pump.
Is there another one available?
You are correct is mentioning that the tank pictured is not for a fuel injected vehicle. Due to the year spans that are covered, if you are
running fuel injection, you must currently use an external type EFI pump.
Thanks for the response.
Due you have a recommendation on the pump?
Sorry one more question, does the tank support the return style fuel system the 87 runs?
Barry Grant makes a nice external EFI pump. And, our tank can accept a return line. We also offer the service to add extra bungs for extra fuel lines and so forth. It is in the options at a nominal fee.
I`m converting my 2003 S10 Pickup gas tank to a rear mounted tank instead of the saddle tank. I need a tank that uses the stock fuel pump assembly(Recessed) only with the fuel filler neck in the center of the tank on the FRONT, just below the seam of the top plate of the tank, simular to the Chevelle and Nova that have the filler neck on the rear of the tank.Let me know if its available. Thanks Rod.
Go to our Accessories category and look at “Custom Fuel Tank”. We will need the dimension sheet filled out.
Keep in mind that these aftermarket tanks are not smog legal so you must check your local state laws.
Will this tank work in a 74 4wd blazer?
This tank will not work on the Blazer whether it is 2wd or 4wd.
